Literature Text

Mary stands in her cove
Small and stone cold
She looks down on the people
But only the pigeons see her

She has a blanket of pretty bricks
An old cover for an old lady
One finger pokes through a hole
Pointing at the brothers and sisters
That will never meet.

They will never meet
Never speak
Never share their dreams
Walk by on tired feet
Back to their lonely streets

I am inside Mary’s house
The brothers and sisters pray aloud
Their peace comes from foreign words
And the finery of God
Their chanting soothes me
But we will never meet.

We will never meet
Never speak
Never share our dreams
They walk by me on tired feet
Back to their lonely streets.

A man with no abode
Sleeps in the house of God and gold
One little Jesus could buy him a home
He's not here for the faith
the nice candlelight or the chanting calm
He's warm and out of the rain
Quietly dreaming of the Priest's constraint

But they will never meet
Never speak
Never share their dreams
Walk by each other on tired feet
Back to their lonely streets.
Say hello to a stranger, they might become your friend.

I love the whole idea behind this song. It's very compassionate.
